That "partnership" was the beginnings of The Mayo Clinic.-- Sister Ignatia Gavin, the "angel" of Alcoholics Anonymous, who wasinstrumental in the designation of alcoholism as a disease.First arriving on America's shores almost 300 years ago, Catholic sistersaltruistically built and led schools, hospitals, orphanages, colleges, and other social institutions that have continued to serve millions ofAmericans in the intervening years. Remarkably, they created theseenduring institutions at a time when most women had few, if any, professional opportunities."Few people are aware of the tales of the brave women who came to thiscountry to help immigrants assimilate into the fabric of America," saidJane Burke, SSND Executive Director of LCWR. "Their heroic presence duringmany of the formative periods of our nation is an important part ofAmerican history and the legacy of the Sisters.""This is an important and unique exhibit," said Douglass W McDonald,President and CEO of Museum Center. "The artifacts and materials featuredin the exhibit tell a compelling story. Cincinnati Museum Center is proudto care for these historic materials as the institution of record andexhibit registrar."Exhibit visitors of all ages will discover the pivotal presence of thesevery self-determined women at many of our nation's dramatic turning pointsfrom the Civil War, the Depression, and the Civil Rights Movement, throughHurricane Katrina.
The untold stories of these unsung heroes will berecounted through rare, heretofore unseen artifacts, vivid first-personaccounts, photographs, and both modern and archival video.John Allen, Senior Vatican Analyst for CNN, says, "The Women & Spiritexhibit brings to life the story of religious sisters in the UnitedStates. Against all odds, these largely anonymous women changed thecountry."McDonald added, "The Sisters were contemporaries of the early Americanheroes recognized in standard text books. They made a significant impacton our country through selfless service to the pioneers, immigrantcommunities and America's children. Finally, their perspective isdocumented."Over the past several years, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious(LCWR) has researched the history and worked with communities of sistersto catalog significant artifacts. The Exhibit was conceived by Bob WeisDesign Island and produced by Seruto & Company. The initial exhibition in Cincinnati is scheduled to run through August30, 2009 Other locations and dates will be announced.

As has been speculated for a while now Michael Peca has been signed to a 1 year deal according to the Dispatch. The deal is for 1.315 million.I fully expect Hitch to limit Peca's minutes to that 12 - 15 range and slot him in the lineup where he's most effective and that is at the 3rd line center position playing against other teams top lines. He will also help with leadership and bring a solid veteran presence to the lineup who understands HitcHockey. In fact Peca re-signing should send a solid message to the fan base out there that he likes the direction this team is headed otherwise why come back?Hard to argue with this move after striking out on another top 6 center. The organization will gamble that Brassard is ready (although now the Dispatch is reporting Brassard hurt his back) and that Umberger can but solid - not flashy - reliable presence down the middle.Quick numbers update:Nash (6.5) Umberger (3.0) Huselius (4.75)Modin (3.5) Brassard (.850) Torres (2.4)Murray (.600) Peca (1.315) Boll (.570)Chimera (1.875) Malhotra (1.5) Voracek (.850)Extra: Novotny (.800)Commodore (4.3) Hejda (2.0)Tyutin (2.25) Klesla (1.65)Russell (.575) Backman (3.4)Extra: Tollefsen (.750)Leclaire (?)Norrena (.900)Notes:21 players signed for 44.335 millionPascal Leclaire the lone notable player left to be re-signed-LTL.
